When the Plateau lacks sun for days, you have it here. Leukerbad sits at 1411 m — high enough to be above the typical autumn inversion in October and November. Clear view, mild days, temperature difference to the valley often 10 degrees.
Quiet mountain lifts on weekdays
From Monday to Friday you have the Gemmi wall and the Torrent panorama route almost to yourself. No summer heat, no skiers, no crowds. The off-season frequency is intentional — and a gift.
Arrive warm — 51°C from the rock
After four hours on the Gemmi or Torrent, sore muscles come. Here you go straight from hiking boot to bathrobe, a few steps further into the thermal pool. Natural water, not reheated, unlimited for hotel guests between 07:30 and 19:30.
Small, refined, quiet
38 rooms. No large hotel, no slides, no après-ski bar. Restaurant 51° with day-fresh cuisine, half board as add-on with direct booking. Exactly right for hikers who don’t want the restaurant chaos in the evening.

The classic across the historic pass. 1400 → 2350 m. Panorama Rhône valley + Bernese Alps.

From the top station of the gondola at 2350 m in a wide arc — view to Matterhorn and Weisshorn on clear days.
Thermal springs trail →
Loop past the original springs. Valley route, family-friendly, under 3 hours.
Egguweg Albinen →
Water-channel trail with autumn view of the Dala gorge. Ideal when the fog line is lower.
Majing lake →
To the turquoise mountain lake at 2318 m. Ambitious but rewarding — especially in October light.
Pfyfoltruweg Varen →
Lower vineyard trail. Perfect when fog covers the heights — autumn wines along the way, panorama over the Rhône.

What hikers want to know before booking.
How long do the mountain lifts run in autumn?
Autumn schedules for the Gemmi cable car and Torrent gondola vary from year to year. Please check current operating times on gemmi.ch and torrent.ch — or ask us. With the Guest Card (automatically included with stay) you get up to 10 % discount on foot-passenger tickets.
Is Leukerbad really fog-free in autumn?
In most autumn weeks yes. The village sits at 1411 m — the typical upper autumn fog limit on the Plateau is 800–1200 m. That means: when Bern or Geneva are lost in grey, you often have sun here. No guarantee — but the statistics are clear.
Can I hike and stay with dog?
Yes, dogs are welcome on most hiking trails. For the mountain lifts please check separately. In the hotel we have dog-friendly rooms — just mention it at the booking request. Restaurant 51° is also dog-friendly (with or without dog selectable via WhatsApp reservation).
Are there off-season rates?
Yes. Autumn off-season (typically end of September to mid-December) has lower room rates than summer and winter. Best rates are always with direct booking. The Mobility Ticket Valais (free public transport) runs only until 31 October and applies to guests with Swiss residence + 2+ nights + direct booking.
What do I do if the weather up there is bad?
Then the clear advantage of our positioning shows: thermal spa, sauna and cold pool are unlimited included in the room rate — 4 thermal pools, 5 saunas, cold pool. Alternatively: lower hikes such as the Pfyfoltruweg in Varen (vineyard route), the village walk or a visit to the medical centre for a physio session. Autumn has many faces.
