Our thermal water rises from the Leukerbad spring at around 51 °C — straight from the rock, untreated, rich in calcium and fluoride. Known for its healing effect for centuries.
From 1865 poorhouse to today's foundation.
The house stands on foundations from 1865 — built as a poorhouse with baths, so that even the poor could use the springs. From this root grew today's Stiftung 51°.
A family on behalf of the foundation.
Sandra and Didier Grichting run the house as managing directors on behalf of Stiftung 51°. No private corporation, no anonymous chain. A house with heritage and purpose.

Our spa is not a separate building across the street. It is part of the house. What that means for you: no travel, no juggling with opening hours, no changing in crowded locker rooms. From your room to the thermal pool it’s a few steps in a bathrobe.
The tone in here is quiet. No slides, no entertainment programme, no queues at the buffet. Those looking for an adventure spa are in the wrong place — and we say so on purpose. Those looking for quiet, natural water and a personal tone are in the right place. That’s the niche we occupy, since 2018 as an officially rated 4-star house.

From your room to the thermal pool it’s a few steps, not a drive. No changing in crowded locker rooms. No time slot, no reservation. Between 07:30 and 19:30 you enter and leave as often as you like.
Original thermal water from the rock
Our water rises at around 51°C from the spring. Not reheated, not chemically mixed — a calcium-sulphate spring, fluoride-rich, straight from the mountain into our pools. Leukerbad produces four million litres per day: one of the most abundant thermal springs in the Alps.
Quiet, not busy
Small house. No slides. No entertainment programme. Families are welcome — the textile zone is chosen intentionally so that parents with children feel at ease — but those seeking party wellness will not find it here. That’s on purpose.
After the tour: arrive warm

Looking for a package with half board?
Half board is only available with direct booking — either as part of a package (Retreat weeks, cures, seasonal offers) or added directly during the booking process. Not available through external portals.

What guests want to know before booking.
Is the thermal spa included in the room rate?
Yes. As a hotel guest you have unlimited access to thermal pools and the sauna landscape during opening hours (07:30 – 19:30). No extra ticket, no time slot, no reservation. From 2 pm on arrival day to 2 pm on departure day — on intermediate nights unlimited in and out. Towels are prepared in the room.
What sets Therme 51° apart from Leukerbad Therme?
Size and tone. Leukerbad Therme (formerly Burgerbad) is the big adventure spa in the village — several outdoor pools, slides, wellness programme. We are the small boutique house with our own thermal spring directly in the building, quiet tone, no slides. Both have their place — choose according to what you look for in a wellness weekend.
Can I also visit as a day guest, without staying overnight?

Is the hotel suitable for children?
Yes, families are welcome. The entire spa area is intentionally a textile zone — also in sauna and steam bath (with towel as base) — so that families feel at ease. The hot pot (40–43°C) and whirlpool (38°C) are too hot for small children, please be aware. Children under 6 stay and bathe free, 6–15 half price with the Leukerbad Guest Card. Is a cure stay with health insurance contribution possible?
Yes. We have our own physiotherapy department in-house, and health insurances reimburse for ambulatory cures up to CHF 10 per night with medical prescription. Details and process: Physio & Massage.
